Asset Based Consulting is a partnership formed by Trevor and Jayne Hopkins to champion and use 'Assets Approaches' in work to improve health & wellbeing and challenge health inequalities.

Between them Jayne and Trevor have over 45 years experience of public service: in local government, teaching, community and voluntary work. They both continue to work as volunteers for a number of projects in the north east of England.

They are supported by a network of associates who have particular knowledge and skills and share a commitment in their own work, to using an approach that develops the assets, skills, knowledge and strengths that exist in all individuals, families, communities and organisations.

Trevor Hopkins

Trevor Hopkins Bio Image Trevor was once described as a "Militant Optimist", a description he has tried to live up to ever since.

He has over 25 years experience working in local government on partnership approaches to improving health and challenging health inequalities.This includes setting up and developing local health partnerships, supporting health overview and scrutiny committees, managing, developing and delivering joint health improvement projects.

His previous background in art teaching and long experience of delivering training and coaching programmes for UK Athletics means that he brings very creative approaches to his work on health improvement, leadership and community development

Trevor is an experienced deliverer of presentations and facilitator of workshops and has regularly presented at national conferences.

He is a guest lecturer on Durham University’s MSc on Public Policy and Health and for Leeds Metropolitan University.

Jayne Norwood

Jayne Norwood Bio Image Jayne has over 20 years experience of working in local government.  Around 15 of these have been in health or social care settings.  The emphasis on partnership working in the area has provided her with experience and knowledge of the NHS, in particular public health services, as well as a variety of voluntary and community sector organisations that contribute to improving health.

Her particular area of expertise is Community Development, having worked operationally and in the management of staff and programmes aimed at addressing health inequalities within and between communities.

Jayne has a BSc (1st Class Hons) in Social Policy and a MA in Social Science.  Both disciplines have provided a theoretical understanding that underpins and reflects the experience she has had through her work.

Jayne is an accredited trainer for the Royal Society of Public Health’s ‘Understanding Health Improvement’ Level 2 Award. She holds certificates in Change Management Practice, Health Impact Assessment and The Pacific Institute’s ‘Investment in Excellence’ programme. She finds the complex nature of community health and its connections with policy and power a particular interest.
